The Pennsylvania Classic Turns Pink this Year in Support of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Harrisburg, PA March 30, 2011 – The Pennsylvania Classic, an LPGA Futures Tour Official Event, will benefit the American Cancer Society's 2011 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer during its three-day tournament set for August 5-7, 2011 at Felicita Mountain Resort and Spa.

“We are pleased this year to support the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. This is going to make our event very special,” announced Mike Carricato, Co-Tournament Director. “In fact, beginning April 1, opening day of golf season at Felicita, we will all be thinking pink and our resort will have a pink theme throughout this entire golf season.”

The LPGA Futures Tour is committed to helping charities both locally and globally and has raised nearly $4.9 million for charities across the nation since 1989. This year will be no different, with 16 tournaments nationwide with a charitable purpose.

“We want everyone to realize that hope starts here in South Central Pennsylvania,” noted Christiana Rau, Chair of the American Cancer Society's 2011 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Harrisburg. “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a way to raise money for much-needed programs and services while creating more awareness and educating people
about the disease. We’re so excited to partner with The Pennsylvania Classic this year to provide even greater awareness in our region.”

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer celebrates its 14th year of celebrating breast cancer survivors, remembering those lost, and raising money to fight the disease that has touched so many in the greater Harrisburg community.

Harrisburg’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a five- KILOMETER, non-competitive walk that will take place at City Island on October 15, 2011.  Proceeds from Making Strides Against Breast Cancer support the American Cancer Society’s life-saving breast cancer research, education, advocacy, patient services, and community partnership grants for women in the greater Harrisburg community.

The Pennsylvania Classic is now in its third year at Felicita Mountain Resort and has been in the Central Pennsylvania region for over twenty years. “Each year the tournament gets bigger and better,” added Carricato. “We’re excited to have the LPGA Futures Tour back again and we know that this is going to be the best year yet.”
